Izzy's Story

Izzy's story

Izzy’s journey with melanoma began in August 2018, when she was diagnosed with stage 1 melanoma. The mole was removed, and a wider excision was performed as a precaution. After this, she continued with her follow-up appointments over the coming months. Thankfully, she was given the all clear, and life returned to normal.

In July 2021, things changed. After experiencing ongoing illness and discovering lumps on her body, Izzy underwent further testing. A biopsy confirmed stage 4 metastatic malignant melanoma. An MRI scan revealed cancer in the brain, while a PET scan also showed the disease had spread to multiple areas. Izzy began treatment immediately and faced her diagnosis with incredible courage. To those around her, she remained the same vibrant and determined person. Strong, positive, and focused on continuing to live her life.

Encouragingly, the treatment initially worked. Scans showed a complete response, bringing a huge sense of hope. After three months, the main areas of cancer had significantly reduced. Some small areas remained in the brain, so Izzy continued with her medication while being closely monitored. During this time, Izzy moved to London and embraced life wholeheartedly. Living in Balham and working for The National Wedding Show, she thrived in her career and loved everything the city had to offer. Her work ethic was unmatched, and she treasured time with her friends and family. Sadly, new symptoms began to develop. Further scans showed that areas of cancer in her brain were no longer responding to treatment. In August 2022, Izzy underwent stereotactic radiosurgery at The Royal Marsden.

Following the procedure, Izzy suffered severe headaches. She was admitted to hospital on 4 February 2023, where she spent the following weeks living on a cancer ward, continuing her fight with incredible bravery.

On 9 March 2023, Izzy tragically passed away at just 26 years old. She was surrounded by the people who loved her most.
